Summer Camp 2025 at The Black Hole

Kavita completed Summer Camp at The Black Hole today, 4 weeks of Science, Maths, Data Science, intro to Balochi, etc. Kavita really enjoyed Camp and, she delved deep into her project 'The String Machine' with her team mates.

There was a lot of drama until the last minute because one of her teammates was not pulling their weight and this really stressed Kavita out. Haresh and I gave her some ideas on how to deal with it and , to finalise the project. I think any educational space can do more to focus /encourage/train children communication skills, how to work together in a team, and to be really considerate and, kind with each other. I think these are essential skills that educational spaces can impart. At the same time, I encourage Kavita to stand up for herself, to use such an opportunity to be a leader, to inspire team spirit and, learn as much as possible.

Four weeks of working on a Science Project is a great, wonderful opportunity to learn, test and present scientific principles. To see science in action!

I noticed many of the children were busy on their phones when a documentary or movie was on and, this really made me sad/annoyed. These phones are a disease, what can I say.

Otherwise, as usual, like last year, Kavita really enjoyed the Gup Shup sessions with Dr. Pervez Hoodbhoy. These sessions are streamed on The Black Hole YouTube channel. How cool is that? And, I was so so proud to see Kavita actively participates in the Gup Shup.

This is one of these sessions: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6NOa04no8v4&t=94s

Really grateful to have The Black Hole in Islamabad which hosts daily lectures, panel discussions, literature discussions, film festivals, debates and programmes for children. It's a treasure.
