I don't take photographs of incorrectly spelled English words on shop signs or back of cars to make fun of the shop keepers, the artists or the people who patronise the shops or ride in taxis.
English is everywhere, even if it's badly spelled. Look at South Asia: shop names, brand names and pet dogs have to have English names.
It's almost as if English is an ordinary language, misspelled, mixed and, localised. But it's also the language of education, class and privilege.
The masses may not speak or read lines from Shakespeare and To Kill a Mockingbird but, you are educated if you know how.
English is everywhere, even if it's badly spelled. It's Creoled, desi-fied, and mingled. It has been twisted and, blended into local versions.
It's mixed together with our mother tongues to convey a thought, make fun, or call the help line.
English ki kya baat hai!
