Friday evening

Instead of going up the hill, we meandered around central Monrovia.

The cemetery on Center Street is now a mini jungle now and, is being used for dumping garbage. What a shame. The city, helped by donors, has cleaned and walled this cemetery a couple of times but we are back again at square one.

Parts of town are looking extremely neglected and dirty. Things look like they are falling apart. I get a sense of decay.

If the main parts of the capital city are falling apart, what can you say about the city's administration?

Apparently, LEC works in parts of town but we ourselves have had our apartment cut off for several months.

There are naked hanging high-voltage wires in places.

Things aren't run really well, are they?

I think this is the best it's going to get. A low-quality, do - the - minimum type of administration but with a lot of high - quality corruption.

The Pavilion's gardens are looking good but because they are fenced, the public cannot enjoy them but have to perch on the walls of the Pavilion.

The city's roadside bars and cook shops are thriving though. Evening time, there's bound to be folks enjoying music loudly and, a drink or two. The spirit of Monrovia lives on in the people while the city decays and uncared for.

We met some folks who have moved to Monrovia recently. They observed there aren't any public spaces such as parks and, walking in the city can be a challenge. They live on Old Road. The wife remarked that she did love how people really enjoy music and, it's loud and infectious!
