I met a family with three kids this evening at the Park with Kavita. The mother at first thought I was Kavita's 'dado.' (Is this the price you pay for not dyeing your graying hair or do I really look that old?)
The mother told me that her husband had brought the family out for a day our after 2 or 3 months. He is employed as a driver for a family and only makes 15,000 rupees per month. She said they rent a place in E-11. The employer apparently keeps saying they will increase the pay but so far, the salary hasn't been raised. The little girl of 4 was wearing a hijab.
The mother told me that she doesn't bring the kids herself because the neighbours would start talking.
Wonder how a family makes do with just 15,000 rupees?
The mother asked me which class Kavita is in and, I told her I've not put her in any school but she is learning music. She told me there is a school (affiliated with Gandhara School which is in F-11) which has a school in her area which caters to poor children and, the monthly fees is 300 rupees. She said she would eventually have to put her daughter in a government school because although the fees is 300 rupees, in later grades, the costs for books and supplies would amount to a lot.
